Lumen – Financial Clarity
AI-powered financial insights that turn transactions into clarity.
How might we help people understand their spending behaviour instead of simply displaying financial data?
Managing personal finances can feel overwhelming, even for people with a stable income.
Most banking apps provide transaction lists, categories and spending charts, but they expect users to interpret the data themselves.
From data to understanding
To bridge the gap between financial information and user behavior, I conducted desk research and user interviews to identify why current banking dashboards fail to drive meaningful action.
Access is not comprehension
While banking apps provide detailed transaction lists, users struggle to interpret what the data means for their daily lives. Seeing a chart is not the same as understanding a behavior.
Action over observation
Users are not looking for more statistics; they want answers to specific life questions. A successful solution must move from displaying "what happened" to explaining "what to do next."
Verification builds trust
AI-driven insights are only valuable if they are transparent. Users are willing to follow recommendations only when they can easily verify the logic behind the AI’s suggestions.
Actionable
Every insight must lead to a concrete step that improves financial health.
Transparent
AI logic should be explainable and easy for the user to verify at any time.
Empathetic
The experience should reduce the mental load of finance, not add to it with complexity.
